Major companies and individuals Twitter accounts hacked or compromised on Wednesday, 15th July 2020. The news came out as a big shock to everyone as the names included in the list include celebrities and giant companies. The breach happened to promote a bitcoin scan and earned nearly $120,000. Many law enforcement agencies including FBI looking at the issues with concerns of Twitter’s system vulnerability. It also came out in the initial sources that mid-level employees have more powerful access to admin tools which can fall into wrong hands. This has raised serious security risk for twitter and exposed powerful users. Here are the known names of the affected accounts.

  • President Barack Obama
  • Joe Biden
  • Elon Musk
  • Bill Gates
  • Kanye West
  • Michael Bloomberg
  • and Apple

Twitter is currently looking at more compromised accounts and blocking any new tweets or locking accounts to avoid the scam spread. However, it has been said Donald Trump’s account has special protections due to past incidents and his account was an exception in the attack. His account is currently safe and not hacked by the scammers. Twitter says it won’t restore access to their owners “until we are certain we can do so securely (The Verge, 2020).”
