Coronavirus free New Zealand lifted the restrictions. This has been announced after the recovery of the last case, a woman from Auckland. The last case has not shown any symptoms after observation for 48 hours. More details below.

Coronavirus free New Zealand lifted restrictions

The Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Andern mentioned the following facts in her press conference:

  • No Covid-19 cases found positive in the tests conducting during the last 17 days.
  • No Patient in the hospital for 12 days.
  • It has been 40 days since the last case of community transmission. And 22 days since that person finished self-isolation.
  • So the cabinet of New Zealand has decided to Alert Level 1 which will help to rebuild the economy. The country is now fully open but citizens coming back from abroad will still need to self-isolate for 14 days.

Social distancing is no longer required. In a question by media to PM, “What was your immediate reaction when you heard there were no active cases of Covid-19 in New Zealand”. The PM answered, “I did a little dance”. PM Ardern and her team have been example in controlling the virus. With only 22 mortalities and 1,504 confirmed cases in the country. New Zealand is now fully open for the residents currently living in the country.
