Britain’s Minister of Health: The Mutated Coronavirus strain coming from South Africa is variable and capable of rapid spread. Health Minister Matt Hancock said today, Wednesday, that his country has detected another new strain of Coronavirus.

UK discovers cases of another Mutated Coronavirus from South Africa

“We detected two cases infected with another new strain of Coronavirus here in the United Kingdom,” he said in a press statement.

He continued, saying that they had been in contact with cases that came from the Republic of South Africa during the past few weeks.

“This new strain is of great concern because it is more transmissible and appears to have undergone a greater transformation than the new (first) strain that was discovered in the United Kingdom,” he added.

And the information about this new strain is very disturbing, according to what Professor Peter Openshaw, a specialist in the immune system at Imperial College London, confirmed to the “Science Media Center” website, especially because “it appears to be 40 to 70 percent more transmissible.”

Professor John Edmunds of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine said, “This news is very bad. It appears that this strain is much more contagious than the previous strain.”

Health Experts have also mentioned that there is no evidence that the current approved vaccine will not work. This includes the Pfizer/BionTech vaccine which is currently in distribtuion in Middleast and Saudi Arabia. The Health Ministry in Saudi Arabia has also indiciated that the vaccine will work as expected as the new strain is only spreading the virus rapidly.
