Ruba Farooqui (Al Khobar) – Impact and Challenges. The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has created a global health crisis. A deep impact on the way we perceive our world and our everyday lives.
Not only does the rate of contagion and patterns of transmission threatens our lives. But the safety measures put in place to contain the spread of the virus. It requires social distancing by refraining from doing what is inherently human, which is to find solace in the company of others.
COVID-19 Quarantine
WHO has declared the disease as pandemic (prevalent over a whole country or the world). And, in order to avoid the transmission of the disease people requested to quarantine themselves.
A Quarantine (usually referred to a period of 40 days) is the restriction on the movement of people and goods. Which intended to prevent the spread of disease.
“Those with contagious diseases should be kept away from those who are healthy” (Ref Sahih Bukhari 6771 and Sahih Muslim 2221).
Prophet Mohammed S.A.W. advised quarantine in the plague/disease-affected areas.
The COVID-19 pandemic has had far-reaching consequences beyond the spread of the disease itself. And, efforts to quarantine it, including political, cultural, and social implications.
Worldwide Crisis
Many developed, underdeveloped countries are facing the numerous challenges thrown by COVID-19. Each country trying its utmost best to come out of it by providing help through collecting funds. And, that is with the support of Non-Profit Organizations which in turn are being distributed among the people who cannot have basic access to the necessities in the form of medical and health care.
World Bank Group is providing a fast, flexible response to the coronavirus pandemic by offering financing, policy advice, and technical assistance in every region, across every area from health care and education to trade and technology.
Educational Institute
The pandemic has affected many educational institutions around the world, leading to the widespread closure of schools and universities affecting over 1.5 billion students worldwide and hence all the students are directed towards the online teaching/digital platforms in various forms like Zoom meetings, the Seesaw application is being used for the lower grade students and so on.
In this way, students are still able to cope up with their studies from their homes and many nonprofit organizations have come forward and helped students in providing laptops, computers, and various other resources for low-income families who cannot have access to such luxuries in this hard facing time.
Religious Place
Religious places of worship closed including mosques, churches, temples, monasteries. Pilgrimages canceled in order to combat the disease. Social life has taken a major back seat since there are no public gatherings due to the occurrence of lockdown in almost all parts of the world. People restricted to isolate and confine themselves to their homes.
Precautionary Measurements
But, as the grass is always greener on the other side we also have to look the positive effects of the virus which has caused us to improve our daily habits and our daily routine in a more positive way than ever before, and then, we might change the view about what is happening right now everywhere in the world.
Washing hands thoroughly using water and soap, quit smoking, eat healthy food, maintain the body’s immunity, practicing sports regularly. All these warnings being circulated every day on various digital platforms which are guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO).

Now if we understand it more closely, are these not the healthy habits that we need to follow regardless of the virus circling the globe at the time being? It is always best under any circumstances to follow a healthy lifestyle, avoiding the bad habits that destroy our health and the health of those surrounding us, and thus, it is a positive step towards a different life full of good and healthy habits. Pollution levels in the air have already drastically reduced since the occurrence of the lockdown. The reason, planes are grounded and there has been a significantly low movement of vehicles on the roads.
Stay Home & Stay Safe
The call to stay at home has created a major effect on the families since they are spending quality time together and reinforcing family relations and ties.
Impact and Challenges
Coronavirus, is a serious crisis the majority of the world’s population is facing at this moment, yet we can all together control its spread by staying at home, following the guidelines set by our respective governments, maintaining a healthy and fruitful lifestyle as recommended by World Health Organization, thanking the doctors, nurses, pharmacists who have been working on the frontline as warriors round the clock providing utmost care to all the patients putting themselves and their own families at risk and let’s lessen their workload by staying at home and avoiding unnecessary gatherings.
Nevertheless, there are positive aspects that can help us as individuals have a new beginning after the crisis subsides, a beginning of positive action, health-wise, environmentally, and socially.
