Shahzeen Eram, Riyadh – Hindi playing important role in National unity and Integrity says, Indian Ambassador. Embassy of India in Riyadh celebrated the ‘Vishwa Hindi Divas’ (World Hindi Day) at the Embassy premises with patriotic fervor among prominent members of the Indian community and school students.

Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia H.E. Dr. Ausaf Sayeed noted the importance of Hindi and its unique place as India’s link language.

The Ambassador said that “The Hindi language is the identity of the nation and its people. Hindi as a medium of communication is playing an important role in maintaining the national unity, integrity and cultural diversity in the country.”

He also mentioned about the rising stature of Hindi as a global language considering that Hindi is the 3rd most widely spoken language of the world.

He said “Celebration of this day promotes the ethnicity of the Hindi language for our youth and coming generations. Particularly in a country like KSA where we have such rich and enormous participation of Indians from all states and regions of India, speaking all regional languages.”

On occasion, the message of the Hon’ble Prime Minister was read out to the gathering.

Vishwa Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year on January 10 to commemorate the occasion of the first Hindi Conference held in Nagpur, in the Indian state of Maharashtra in 1975.

The Foreign Ministry of India with a very active External Affairs Ministry has a well functioning Hindi section that strives to promote the Hindi language among Indians and all other nations of the world.

The Ambassador also highlighted the role of Bollywood movies in promoting the Indian culture and love for the language.

In Riyadh, amidst much fanfare and appreciation for Hindi – the National Language of India, a plethora of cultural programs presented by the students of International Indian School Riyadh.

Followed by a cultural program in which school children of IISR performed a play on the importance of Hindi.

Dr. Tarannum Asif, Hindi teacher at International Indian School Riyadh and Dr. Misbahul Arfin, member of the Indian community, delivered speeches on the importance of Hindi. An interactive Hindi quiz conducted for the audience. The audience well received.

Embassy officials Mr. R.D. Gumbhir, Mr. Md Ali Jouher, and Mr. Rajesh Kumar recited Hindi poetry written by them. A beautiful rendition of a Bollywood song sung by Ms. Apoorva enthralled the audience.

Awards

Winners of the essay competition conducted by the Embassy in all Indian schools in Riyadh. The Ambassador awarded Juwariya Fathima, Sidra Javed of IISR & Samhita Kakumani of Modern Middle East International School.

Indian embassies across the globe hold various programs for language and cultural exchange offering individuals of different nationalities to become familiar with Indian traditions, culture, and hospitality while also spreading the inter-cultural exchange programs to encourage appreciators of the language to communicate in Hindi.

The event concluded with the distribution of felicitation certificates to those who participated in various events held by the Embassy. Over 200 members of the Indian community attended the event.
