Riyadh awarded for 4 new developments worth SAR 13 Billion. The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has awarded four significant road development contracts valued at SR13 billion ($3.46 billion). These contracts mark the commencement of the first phase of a comprehensive program designed to enhance the transportation network of Saudi Arabia’s capital.
Riyadh awarded for 4 new developments worth SAR 13 Billion – Objectives of the Road Development Program
The first phase of this ambitious program focuses on developing key road axes and ring roads, ensuring they are seamlessly connected to provide sustainable transport and logistics services throughout Riyadh. This initiative is a critical component of Vision 2030, aimed at transforming Riyadh into one of the world’s leading cities and a central hub for sustainable transportation and logistics services in the Middle East.
The RCRC Board of Directors has confirmed that additional contracts for the subsequent phases of the program will be announced in the near future.
Key Projects in the First Phase
The projects awarded in this first phase include several major road developments:
- Second Southern Ring Road Construction:
- Length: 56 kilometers
- Route: From the new Al-Kharj Road in the east to the Jeddah Road in the west
- Features: Four lanes for the main road and three lanes for service roads in each direction, 10 main intersections, and 32 bridges.
- Wadi Laban Suspension Bridge Expansion:
- Length: 4 kilometers
- Project: Building two bridges parallel to the existing Wadi Laban Suspension Bridge and developing the intersection of the western ring road with Jeddah Road.
- Features: Two new bridges and four additional bridges at key intersections.
- Western Part of Al-Thumama Road Axis Development:
- Length: 6 kilometers
- Route: From King Khalid Road in the west to King Fahd Road in the east.
- Extension of Taif Road in Laban Neighborhood:
- Length: 16 kilometers
- Route: From the western end of the Taif Road in the Laban neighborhood to the Qiddiya project.
Traffic Management and Implementation
To ensure minimal disruption during construction, the RCRC has developed a traffic management plan in collaboration with relevant city authorities. This plan will manage traffic diversions on roads affected by the projects.
Vision 2030 and the Future of Riyadh’s Infrastructure
The Riyadh Main Ring Roads Development Program was announced by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, who also serves as the chairman of the RCRC Board of Directors. The program involves the development of more than 500 kilometers of Riyadh’s road network. The first phase of these projects is expected to be completed within three to four years.
These developments are crucial to positioning Riyadh as a major global city, enhancing its infrastructure, and providing state-of-the-art transportation solutions that align with the broader objectives of Vision 2030.
