Saudi Arabia’s development game has been soaring, with new hotels and entertainment zones springing up across the Kingdom. Amidst this architectural boom, the focus on creating green spaces is also gaining momentum. The latest addition to this green revolution is King Abdulaziz Park, set to become one of the largest parks in Riyadh.
King Abdulaziz Park approved for Riyadh – A Green Oasis in North Riyadh
Located in North Riyadh, not far from King Khalid International Airport, King Abdulaziz Park is poised to be a centerpiece of Saudi Arabia’s green transformation. Spanning an impressive 4.3 million square meters, this park will stand out as one of the largest in the city.
A Diverse and Lush Environment
King Abdulaziz Park will feature six themed gardens, each designed to showcase a variety of plant species, aiming to attract birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. The park will boast over two million trees, carefully selected to thrive in Riyadh’s climate, providing shaded areas that cover 65% of the park’s total area.
Highlighting the Botanical Garden
At the heart of King Abdulaziz Park will be the Botanical Garden, which will highlight over 200 native plant species. The garden will include the Munsiyah tributary, a branch of Al Sulai Valley, stretching 11 kilometers within the park. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of the Botanical Garden from a panoramic path that spans over two kilometers.
A Haven for Recreation and Leisure
King Abdulaziz Park will offer more than just green spaces. It will feature 24 children’s play areas, 30 sports facilities, and an extensive network of walking, jogging, and cycling paths totaling 115 kilometers. The park will also include several green terraces, open spaces, and outdoor theaters for events and festivals. Restaurants and other amenities will seamlessly blend into the natural surroundings, enhancing the park’s appeal.
Looking Ahead
Expected to be completed by 2027, King Abdulaziz Park aims to transform Riyadh into one of the world’s most livable cities. As a key component of the Green Riyadh initiative, this development will provide a tranquil escape from the city’s hustle and bustle, contributing to cooler temperatures and improved air quality, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030.
