Saudi Arabia Cracks Down on Residency, Labor, and Border Violators: 19,817 Arrested in Nationwide Campaign. In a coordinated effort to enforce residency, labor, and border security laws across Saudi Arabia, joint field campaigns conducted from July 11 to July 17, 2024, resulted in the arrest of 19,817 individuals. This comprehensive operation saw the detention of 12,436 residency violators, 4,881 border security violators, and 2,500 labor law violators.

Among those apprehended while attempting to illegally cross into Saudi Arabia, 1,389 individuals were caught. Of these, 45% were Yemeni nationals, 53% were Ethiopians, and 2% were from other nationalities. Additionally, 48 individuals were detained while attempting to leave Saudi Arabia unlawfully. Furthermore, nine individuals were arrested for their involvement in transporting, housing, and employing violators of residency, labor, and border security laws.

Expatriates Undergoing Regulatory Procedures

The ongoing regulatory procedures involve 17,067 expatriates, including 15,394 men and 1,673 women. Of these, 7,139 violators have been referred to their respective diplomatic missions to obtain travel documents, 4,242 are finalizing their travel arrangements, and 14,471 violators have already been deported.

Strict Penalties for Violators

The Ministry of Interior has reiterated the severe penalties for those who facilitate the entry, transportation, sheltering, or provision of assistance to border security violators. Penalties include up to 15 years in prison, fines of up to one million riyals, confiscation of vehicles and housing used for sheltering violators, and public defamation. The Ministry urges citizens to report any violations by calling (911) in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, and (999) or (996) in other regions of Saudi Arabia.
