International Experts Meet to discuss Riyadh’s future as a World-Leading Sustainable City

Over 60 international experts are participating in the ‘Riyadh: The Sustainable City’ Symposium to discuss projects that will transform the capital and the lives of its 7 million citizens.

12 November 2019, Riyadh: Today, The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC), previously known as Riyadh Development Authority, launched a 2-day symposium to set out the next chapter in Riyadh’s development as a sustainable city, one that will enhance the lives of its citizens, while finding solutions to the difficult challenges facing all cities across the world today.

Over, 60 international delegates, who come from academic and research institutions, will contribute towards research and advise on climate change; sustainable urban development; conservation of the natural environment; critical resource management; energy conservation, production and management; legal frameworks and initiatives to support positive change; and transformative social activation.

The two-day ‘Riyadh: The Sustainable City’ Symposium will focus on four of the capital’s most ambitious projects:

Above all, these four Wellbeing Projects were launched by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and stem from an initiative from His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince. Further, they are transformative and will help establish Riyadh as one of the most livable cities in the world.

Similarly, the projects complement Saudi Vision 2030’s ‘Quality of Life’ Program and are aligned with the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals, to create sustainable cities and communities while driving urgent action against climate change.

Firstly, the event will help Riyadh embark on the next chapter in the Saudi capital’s transformation to become a city that is smart, resilient and sustainable. Secondly, A city that will enhance the lives of its 7 million residents, while finding solutions to the unique challenges it faces, like harsh climatic conditions and resource scarcity. In addition, to the urgent action against climate heating and other pressing environmental challenges faced by all other cities across the world today.
