Pfizer BioNTech Vaccine effective against UK Mutated Coronavirus, reported by Reuters in the latest update. A laboratory study conducted by the American company Pfizer revealed days ago that the vaccine that is developed with the company Biontech to prevent Covid-19 disease appears to be effective in facing a fundamental mutation in new rapidly spreading strains of the Coronavirus that were detected in Britain and South Africa.

The study, conducted by Pfizer and scientists from the University of Texas Medical Branch and has not yet been reviewed, indicates that the vaccine is effective in neutralizing the virus.
Phil Dormitzer, a senior viral vaccine scientist at Pfizer, said the mutation could be the reason for the increased spreadability and that there was a concern that it might cause the virus to escape neutralization of the antibodies stimulated by the vaccine.
The study was conducted on blood samples taken from people who received the vaccine. Their results are limited because they do not consider the full set of mutations detected in new strains of the rapidly spreading virus.
Dormitzer said that it is encouraging that the vaccine appears to be effective against the mutation, in addition to 15 other mutations that the company has previously tested the vaccine with.
“We have now tested 16 different mutations, and none of them had a significant effect. This is the good news … This does not mean that the seventeenth (mutation) will not have an effect,” he added.
The researchers plan to conduct similar tests to see if the vaccine is effective, along with other mutations detected in the new strains that have appeared in Britain and South Africa, and they hope to have more data within weeks.
