New Regulations for Baqala, Grocery Stores, and Tamweenat in Saudi Arabia, the latest guidance of Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing will be divided into two phases. The first phase of the implementation begins on 10th February 2021 and the second phase on 29th June 2021. Here are the details of the new rules and regulations.

According to the new regulations, in the first phase, all stores must have valid licenses to run the business. The stores must also display price tags on any and all products sold by the business along with the installation of surveillance cameras.

After the implementation of the first phase, the second phase of this change on June 29th, 2021 will focus on an electronic system for invoicing. The second also includes cleanliness and other aspects to keep high standards of grocery and food stores. Including new name boards (which fulfills the requirements and specifications) and a fully transparent facade.

The ministry clarified in a statement that the regulations of the second phase also include cleanliness of floors, ceilings, walls, shelves, storage places, as well as cooling and freezing units and their surroundings, and adherence to the minimum distance between shelves, in addition to keeping cleaning equipment and tools away from foodstuffs, besides having movable fire extinguishing cylinders and hanging first aid box.
