Massive increase in visitors to Madina reported

Official figures reveal that 5.8 million Muslims visited the Prophet’s Mosque, the second holiest site in Islam, located in the Saudi city of Medina, during a week coinciding with a school break in the kingdom. The period in focus spanned from the 28th of the lunar Islamic month of Juamad II to the fourth of Rajab, as reported by the General Authority for Care of the Prophet’s Mosque.

The attendance comprised 130,401 male worshippers and 115,551 females, each observing separate visit timings at Al Rawda Al Sharifa, where the tomb of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) is situated within the mosque. In the same week, 123,200 packs of Zamzam water and 99,832 fast-breaking meals were distributed to worshippers in designated areas, while 2,492 visitors explored exhibitions showcasing the mosque’s expansions over the years.

Following Umrah at the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Islam’s holiest site, pilgrims typically visit Medina to offer prayers at the Prophet’s Mosque and explore other Islamic landmarks. Saudi Arabia anticipates approximately 10 million foreign Muslims to perform Umrah during the current season that commenced over six months ago. Authorities at the Prophet’s Mosque implemented enhanced services during the recent school holiday, including disinfection, crowd management, and assistance for physically challenged and elderly visitors.
