The sky of Makkah Al-Mukarramah will witness the second perpendicular of the moon to the Holy Kaaba this year in the phenomenon of seeing with the naked eye this Wednesday [24th March 2021].

Moon perpendicular to the Holy Kaaba

The head of the Astronomical Society in Jeddah, Engineer Majed Abu Zahra, explained that the phenomenon of orthogonality occurs when the tilt of the moon reaches the width of Makkah and is at the moment of its mediation on its meridian, unlike the rest of the celestial bodies.

He pointed out that the time for the orthodoxy will be at 09:10 pm, Makkah time, and the moon will be at an altitude of 89.9 degrees and illuminated by 79.9% and it is in the phase of the increasing hunchback, and it will remain visible in the sky of Makkah until it sets at 03:59 at dawn.

And he indicated that with this astronomical phenomenon it is possible to determine the direction of the qiblah for any region in the world where the moon is seen at that moment, but it is not useful for areas near Makkah, such as, Jeddah, Taif, Asfan, and all areas that are less than one degree away from Makkah.
