The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, in collaboration with the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, has successfully completed the implementation of the ministerial decision aimed at prohibiting outdoor work under direct sunlight. The ban, initiated on Dhu al-Hijjah 9, 1445 (June 15, 2024), spanned three months, and officially concluded on Rabi` al-Awwal 12, 1446, corresponding to September 15, 2024.
Human Resource Ministry ends the ban work under the sun for labors
This decision is rooted in the commitment of both the Ministry and the National Council to prioritize the safety and health of workers across all sectors. By regulating work hours and ensuring that no one is subjected to the intense summer heat, the Ministry and the Council aim to provide a safe and healthy work environment, aligning with occupational safety and health standards. This initiative reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to foster a modern, competitive labor market that respects worker rights and promotes long-term sustainability.
In 2024, 94.6% of establishments adhered to the ban, marking a significant level of compliance. This success is attributed to the Ministry’s continuous engagement with employers and workers through targeted awareness campaigns and educational resources. Employers were urged to reorganize working hours, ensuring that employees were not exposed to extreme heat. The Ministry also conducted inspections to enforce the decision and mitigate occupational hazards.
Moreover, the Ministry provided a comprehensive guide for occupational safety and health to prevent risks related to sun exposure and heat stress. A detailed guide for working under high-temperature conditions was also made available on the official website. These resources helped employers implement best practices and comply with the regulations.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, together with the National Council, remains committed to enhancing occupational safety and health measures, ensuring that Saudi Arabia continues to be a leading environment for safe, productive, and regulated work conditions.
