Facebook secretly planning to launch a smartwatch later next year, this will be an addition to their already made hardware devices such as Portal, Oculus VR headsets, etc. The new watch will be based on Android or Google’s Wear operating system (OS). More details below.
Facebook secretly planning to launch a smartwatch later next year
The reports have mentioned that the OS will be of Google Wear but Facebook is planning to build their own operating systems for their devices. A similar approach to Google’s main competitor, Apple. The Smartwatch of Facebook will have functions/features such as messaging, health, and fitness.
The smartwatch will be integrated with Oculus Virtual Reality headsets and Portal Video Chat devices. On another note, Facebook is also working on Ray-ban Smart glasses which will be released later this year. In addition to that an augmented reality project known as Project Aria.
The social networking giant’s hardware ambitions are no secret. The company has more than 6,000 employees working on various augmented and virtual reality projects and as part of existing hardware divisions like Oculus and Portal, as well as experimental initiatives under its Facebook Reality Labs division, Bloomberg reported last month.
