- Ministerial Committee Study: A ministerial committee is currently examining 21 proposed incentives to support the growth of the non-profit sector. These incentives include exemptions from labor fees, financial fees, zakat, and customs duties. The committee, which includes ministers of finance, economy and planning, commerce, and human resources and social development, plans to submit its recommendations by the end of October 2024.
- Sector Growth: The non-profit sector in Saudi Arabia has experienced significant growth, with a 181% increase in the number of organizations, reaching a total of 5,000. This includes 4,000 societies, 400 private firms, and 530 family funds. The sector’s contribution to the national GDP has reached 0.87%.
- Addressing Challenges: The Ministry has identified various challenges within the non-profit sector through meetings with private organizations and charitable societies. Al-Rajhi noted that 50% of these challenges have already been resolved. The National Center for the Development of the Non-Profit Sector is committed to finding comprehensive solutions to the remaining challenges within a year.
Stakeholder Engagement
The virtual meeting, attended by over 1,000 sector leaders, workers, and stakeholders from across Saudi Arabia, focused on discussing challenges and recommendations to further develop the sector. The goal is to align the non-profit sector’s progress with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
These discussions and proposed incentives are part of Saudi Arabia’s broader effort to enhance the non-profit sector and support its role in contributing to the country’s economic and social goals. The planned incentives expected to make a significant impact on the sector’s growth and effectiveness.
