Engineering profession Saudization date and details announced. Saudi Arabia has recently unveiled its commitment to partially localize engineering jobs, marking the latest move in its ongoing efforts to create employment opportunities for its citizens. Set to take effect on July 21, the decision aims to Saudise 25% of engineering professions in private sector establishments with a workforce of at least five employees in these roles.

In a bid to provide more than 8,000 jobs with a minimum salary of SR7,000 for Saudis, Turki Al Dubaikhy, an advisor to the Localisation Agency at the Ministry of Municipal and Village Affairs and Housing, emphasized the goal of enhancing national manpower in key roles. The initiative also targets Saudising over 150 engineering job titles, with Al Dubaikhy expressing confidence in the private sector’s compliance based on previous localisation decrees.

Saudi Arabia’s broader “Saudisation” labor policy has witnessed various initiatives to boost employment for nationals, spanning sectors such as education, telecommunications, and real estate. Last month, the localization of sales, purchases, and project management jobs came into effect, with a 15% Saudisation target initially set for sales professions. In September, the kingdom outlined plans to localize the dental profession by 35% starting in March of the following year.

To encourage compliance, the Ministry of Human Resources offers incentives and support programs to private sector institutions adopting Saudisation, encompassing assistance in hiring qualified employees, training, and ongoing employment support. Additionally, ministerial decrees in mid-2022 restricted specific sectors, including optics jobs, customer services, licensed aviation professions, sales outlets, and car periodic checks, exclusively to Saudi nationals. In December 2022, a decree focused on localizing employment for postal services and parcel transport across the country came into effect. Saudi Arabia continues to implement regional employment programs, reinforcing its commitment to bolstering the engagement of nationals in the labor market.
