All rent payments are to be paid digitally from 15th January. The General Real Estate Authority has officially initiated the restriction of financial transactions of rent payments via digital platforms in the “Ejar” system, effective from January 15, 2024.

The authority clarified that this restriction encompasses all new residential lease agreements. Consequently, any evidence of rent payments outside the designated digital channels in Ejar (Mada and Sadad using postpaid number 153) will be deemed invalid after this date. It is important to note that this restriction does not extend to commercial leases.

Furthermore, the Real Estate Authority announced the gradual cessation of issuing electronic receipt bonds for new residential contracts, starting from the specified date. Payments made through digital channels will be automatically settled without the necessity of issuing a receipt bond. This implementation aligns with Cabinet Resolution No. (131), which aims to streamline the process of providing electronic payment services for lease contract payments.

The Real Estate Authority emphasized that this decision is in the best interest of beneficiaries in the real estate rental sector, facilitating tenants in meeting their financial obligations through convenient digital channels and depositing payments directly into the lessor’s bank account as registered in the lease contract.
